More than 150 employees from Boeing St. Louis Leadership Association teamed up with Rebuilding Together and residents, employees and members of the Board of Directors of Metro Homeless Center-Shalom House April 19 to make over $100,000 in renovations to Metro’s 104-year-old building.
Metro, which is celebrating 40 years of serving the St. Louis community, is the only 24-hour residential facility for chronically homeless women with mental illness and chemical dependency in St. Louis. Metro’s emergency shelter and transitional housing programs serve some of the hardest to reach clientele in St. Louis. In 2007, Metro successfully permanently housed more than 50 women, many of whom were formerly chronically homeless. In the past six years, 99 percent of the women Metro has placed in permanent housing remain housed.
