Panhandling Ordinance

The St. Louis Board of Aldermen has passed a bill restricting panhandling in the city. The ordinance bans aggressive panhandling as well as panhandling near ATMs, business entrances, sidewalk cafés and in parks.

Alderwoman Lyda Krewson of the 28th Ward, which includes part of the Central West End, introduced the bill. Krewson was spurred to write the bill by the Central West End Security Committee, which is looking at finding solutions to neighborhood safety issues. The bill is co-sponsored by 17th Ward Alderman Joseph D. Roddy as well as numerous other aldermen.
